Guided by the vision of Prof. (Dr.) Rezwana Choudhury Bannya, Shurer Dhara has since blossomed into a global community spanning Bangladesh, Kolkata, New York, and Toronto — carrying the timeless music and humanist ideals of Rabindranath Tagore across generations and across the world.

The First School · The Living Heart

Founded in 1992 with just a few students in a small room at her residence, Shurer Dhara Dhaka has grown into one of Bangladesh's foremost heritage music institutions — running thousands of students from across the country through a distinct and curriculum-approved programme in both online and offline modes at its home in Lalmatia. The school has successfully completed its Silver Jubilee with a gala event attended by dignitaries from across continents.

The North American Chapter

Shurer Dhara NY began its journey in June 2019 with in-person classes in Jackson Heights, New York. After transitioning online in June 2020, students from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Turkey now gather every Sunday morning. Many are Shurer Dhara Dhaka alumni from the 1990s, reunited by a shared love of music and the enduring bond of the Shurer Dhara family.

Gathering every Sunday in Scarborough, children and adults come together to learn, sing, and celebrate the timeless legacy of Rabindranath Tagore — extending Shurer Dhara's melody to yet another corner of the world.
